First round of MLB playoffs are underway. Yankees took on the Indians in the first of the series and suffered a 4-0 loss. The Redsox faced the Astros and found themselves losing 8-2. Some people are looking at these games asking what it all means. Honestly, it’s the first round; these teams have 5 games to figure things out. It is definitely okay to be nervous, but don’t hit the panic button, or the celebration button, just yet.
The Redsox have been subjected to some heavy criticism this year. Lack of performance has been a common complaint that I’ve heard, but then again, they did make it to the playoffs. The Redsox are also facing the Astros, who have done well in the regular season, and really stepped up as the season came to a close. I didn’t get a chance to watch the game tonight, but I can definitely say I was shocked to see the score 8-2, Astros. If I were a betting man, I’d take the Astros in this series. I don’t like the talk surrounding the Redsox, and I know for a fact that the Astros have been a force this year, so they have my favor.
The Yankees vs. Indians was a more surprising game. The Yanks could not get the bats going, and their pitching was not helping them out as much as they would have liked. While the game ended 4-0 in favor of the Indians, there is something to be said for only allowing 4 runs when it seemed like bases were getting more action than Hugh Hefner, (too soon?). I think this first game really came down to the fact that the Indians were crisp. The team is still red hot after making history with a 22 game win streak. Their laser focus is going to be hard to break after such an incredible regular season. The Yanks on the other hand just looked a bit flat. I think because they’ve entered a series the pace has slowed down compared to that of the Wild Card game, where they were absolute rock stars. It is also fair to point out that the pitchers tonight were not the same as the ones who faced the Twins.
While I think the Yankees bullpen is going to put up a fight in the games to come; the bats are going to have to start making some noise if they want to win. With that said, I favor the Indians in this series. I just think that this Indians team is too hot to slow down. Jobu must have given them good blessings, and taken the fear from bats, because they are on it. I didn’t expect the Indians to do as well as they did against the Yankees bullpen, but I also didn’t expect the Yankees to do as poor as they did batting.
I’ll check back in once the first round is over, but at this point I got the Yankees and the Redsox going home after the first round.
